Quality modern Vietnamese cooking from Charles Phan. Reservations are a must, though the bar area also offers the full menu and is first-come-first-served. Great view of the Bay Bridge from here. For a quick bite, check out their takeout counter, Out The Door.

Food wasn't as good as it is hyped but it's worth going just for hojicha panacotta.
A wander down the backstreets of Chinatown yields good fortune for your palate. Brandon Jew's California-influenced Chinese menu (with both à la carte and banquet options) is phenomenally delicious. The space is a beautiful reinvention of a building that's housed some hallowed restaurants since the 19th century.

Nancy Oakes' modern follow-up to Boulevard. More of an after-work drinks and small plates option in my book. Photo via @mydealist (Instagram).

A remarkable sushi pop-up at the Saison chef's counter, until the end of May. Via Tablehopper.

Ethiopian restaurant from Eskender Aseged, now with a permanent spot in Bayview after 7 years of successful popups. Matt Elias from Saltwater used to work with him too. Want to try their yellowfin tuna kitfo (via @yifensky on Instagram).

You need to try roast chicken.
Great spot to spend Sunday if you have some work to get done. Also, the street is filled with nice restaurants and cute shops if you need to take a break.
Great open space to enjoy coffee + conversation.

Excellent viennoiserie in the Dog Patch. Limited seating outside on the sidewalk. Serves De La Paz coffee/espresso. I highly recommend.
Brilliant pastries paired with De La Paz coffee. My favorite is mushroom tart.
Their quail was phenomenal.

Former chef from Sushi Ran, keiseki menu only. Nicely done.
Run by former Sushi Ran chief. Currently, taking about only 40 customers daily. They do really good Katsuo sushi.
Modern American fine dining, seated communally, dinner-party style. Chef David gets every detail of experience and dishes right. Dinner starts at mezzanine where people mingle with snacks and cocktails on their hands. After that, people are invited to the dining tables where main courses are served. Chefs tell us about dishes as they are served. The kitchen is open and people are encouraged to socialize with chefs while they are cooking.
A decent spot for a Greek gyro. Simple and filling. Stylish interior. Greek frozen yogurt with toppings to end.

A kinda hidden spot for coffee surrounded by plants. Much quieter than other Ritual Coffee Roasters. Visit here with your fav book and enjoy a sunny part of the city.
The crown jewel of the Julia Morgan-designed Fairmont. The Moroccan room may be my favorite space in all of San Francisco.

Low key. Nice place to hang out.
Cocktail-focused bar with an industrial aesthetic in mid-Market. From the people behind Big (which I was so sad to see go). Andres says to let Joey make you a drink.

Nice decor.
Food is ok. Great waiter explained 12 years of history of the restaurant.
Their beer tasting is worth a try.
Opened in April 2014. Drinks are not that good. They have a pool table though.
Great cocktails. A wide variety of jerky selection. Vegetarian jerky is recommended.
Apple carrot juice and Hangtown fry are hangover killer!
