Cute, dimly-lit bar w exposed brick walls. Good option for the area, with some interesting cocktails. Very date-friendly.

Notable Italian from Mario Batali; classic, consistent, absolutely delicious. Octopus was arguably the best I've ever had. Front of house can have attitude, but table service was great.

Did the pasta tasting menu nearly 10 years back and it was an exceptional experience. Book way in advance.

Tiny, wonderful. Get the apple galette for an extraordinary tatin-like pastry experience.

My new favorite NY bookstore - go upstairs and idle away in the Proust reading room, complete with celestial ceiling and comfy leather couches. Excellent selection of French books (original and in translation).

Cozy little favorite in the LES. Excellent soba - hot or cold equally delicious. Also try the silky homemade tofu. Most authentic experience of soba I've ever had in the U.S.

Great park in midtown featuring a big lawn and live music, yoga, and other events during the summer. Carousel for little ones.
