The best cafe in HCMC in the evening. Not a daytime spot but in the evening the candle lit tables and great music make it the perfect place to relax. Try the ca phe rhum.
A great little cafe on Hoang Sa, one of my favorite streets in Saigon/HCMC. Great iced coffee and the perfect place to sit outside and enjoy the view of the river and buzzing stream of motorbikes.
Another great local spot for seafood BBQ. Ordering is a bit tougher here without someone who speaks Vietnamese. Check the tanks to see what's fresh.
Banh cuon. A northern specialty of steamed rice sheet/noodle wrappers filled with pork and wood ear mushroom served with fried shallots and bean sprouts. Nice light meal. Don't forget the side of cha loa aka Vietnamese bologna.
My favorite market in Saigon - located in D5, Cholon/Chinatown. Much less touristy than Ben Thanh and free of the yelling and tugging you'll experience there. Also a much more enjoyable layout.
Like a Vietnamese Starbucks. One of my favorite spots for take away Vietnamese coffee and a great place to get coffee beans to take home. Also the best name ever.
Great Vietnamese bbq at your table spot in Saigon's District 1. Go for the ostrich if they have it and make use of the green sauce! One of my favorite spots in the city.
Good banh xeo with an impressive herb platter.
Overlooking bustling Hoang Sa street winding along the river on the edge of District 1 - this is where the locals party and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Snails, clams, and lots more sautéed in piles of garlic. The Thai clams are great. Try to score a table on the top floor and enjoy the view and the bia Saigon on ice.
Great seafood on Le Lai, across from Pham Ngu Lau. Snails (oc) are the specialty but don't miss the clams.
The spot to hang with the locals in D1 over coffee. They also offer varying roasts and blends to sample different coffees.
Good phở gà right next to the Central Post Office
Known as Banh Xeo 46A, the spot made famous by Anthony Bourdain. Great spot to tuck into a gigantic crispy crepe stuffed with shrimp and bean sprouts with a pile of herbs and dipping sauce.
One of the more famous banh mi spots in Saigon and with good reason. Packed with God knows how many different lunch meats and pâté, this thing is far from small. The bread is toasted over coals and perfectly crispy and soft at the same time.
My favorite bun bo Hue in Saigon so far. Nice and centrally located in D1. Open lunch and dinner.
